Tentacles, Tethers, and Sea Tendrils at the 2019 Popular Culture Association National Conference in Washington, D.C.

Members of the Sea Literature, History & Culture Area of the Popular Culture Association are searching for one more paper to join a panel entitled “Tentacles, Tethers, and Sea Tendrils,” which explores the relationship(s) between human culture and the ocean in literature, art, film, history, and global popular culture. Currently accepted papers cover Shibari / Kinbaku in aquatic anime and tentacled / non-tentacled briny sea witches in western mythology. Papers that engage with the theme of our panel from any discipline in the humanities or social sciences are welcome.

- The Sargasso Sea in Literature, Art, History, Cinema
- Lovecraft, Dagon, Cthulhu
- Sea-Themed Hentai
- Maritime Knot-Tying, Rope-Work
- Mermaids
- Kelp / Seaweed in Gastronomy, History, Art
- Shipwrecks
Any topic that engages with the power of the sea to grasp the human imagination and hold it fast!
