Samuel is a PhD student at King’s College London, currently working on his thesis corrections. He previously studied history at the University of Guelph and Wilfrid Laurier University. He is the Social Media Editor for www.BritishNavalHistory.com, and a councillor for the Canadian Nautical Research Society. His research interests include early modern institutional and state development, particularly focusing on the relationship between the English state’s and Royal Navy’s development processes. Sara Farhan’ is a PhD candidate at York University. Her research considers Hashemite Iraq, where a balance between pro-western forces and an eroding elite structure consistently failed to incorporate a burgeoning technocratic class into the state apparatus. Her dissertation explores the Royal Medical College of Baghdad. From inception, the college acted as a microcosm of the complexity of Iraq’s post-colonial state formation. She is also a Book Review Editor for Left History. She is also on Twitter.
