The Association for Great Lakes Maritime History (AGLMH) presents the First Annual Dr. Charles E. Feltner and Jeri Baron Feltner Conference Scholarship.
An award of $250 will be awarded to facilitate participation in the Annual AGLMH Conference and Awards Dinner in September. Applicants must be students currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program, with a professional interest in Great Lakes maritime history.
This scholarship is offered annually by AGLMH to provide competitive awards of $250 to deserving students interested in Great Lakes maritime history. The Feltners dedicated their lives to the Great Lakes maritime as researchers, divers, authors, and mentors, with interests ranging from historic vessel construction and shipwrecks to lighthouses and museums. Jeri remains active in the community, while Charles passed away in 2019.
Applications will be solicited from students currently enrolled in a college or university program (undergraduate or graduate level) who have a professional interest in Great Lakes maritime history. Annual awards of $250 will be given to one or two individuals per conference. [Only one award per institution.]
Applications to the award will include a 500 word letter of introduction that describes the current direction of studies and interest in Great Lakes history, and a CV or resume. Suggested but not required, the application could include a letter of recommendation, ideally from an adviser or instructor. Application materials should be emailed to awards@AGLMH.net by May 15 of the conference year.
Applications will be reviewed in June by a committee, and the ranking of applications will be forwarded to committee chair to collate and nominate for approval by July 1. The chair will notify the student(s) and confirm their participation. In the event of a withdrawal, the award may be given to the next favorable applicant.
Award will include complimentary admission to the Reception, Annual Meeting, Conference, Awards Dinner, and associated activities, including daytime food and beverages. The award is not intended to cover all conference costs. The monetary award will be given to the recipient at the conclusion of the conference, assuming full participation in the
Meeting and Conference.
