The UCI New Swan Shakespeare Center and the UCI Center for Early Cultures invite you to this year’s annual (online) conference, Sea Sense: Blue Humanities and the Early Modern Imaginary.
This online conference will take place on April 29-30, and May 1, 2021.
Sea Sense will focus on the narrative and representational aspects of early modern land/sea distinctions and the environmental concerns these distinctions foreground. The conference will explore the allegorical and rhetorical role oceans play in early modern conceptions of environmental catastrophe, and the limits and possibilities that oceans presented for thinking with ecocriticism in a deep historical context. This three-day history and history of art event will include roundtable discussions, special lectures, and a graduate student conference. See the full schedule HERE.
