This online academic roundtable is an opportunity for curators, researchers and cultural practitioners to explore compelling examples of maritime interpretation and consider ways to bring sea stories to life in engaging, critical and meaningful ways.
The roundtable is convened as part of the U.K. National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) Our Museum project, aiming to co-create brand-new maritime galleries at the Poole Museum, U.K.

Dr. Danielle-Maria Admiss
Danielle-Maria Admiss is a curator and researcher. A current Stanley Picker Fellow and curator for Disturbing Conservation at MAAT Lisbon, Admiss’ most recent work explores marine ecology, sustainability and the archive, questioning critically and creatively what role cultural institutions might play in ecological conservation initiatives (daniadmiss.com)
Jo Loosemore
Jo Loosemore is a broadcaster, curator and actor, and has worked extensively for the BBC and in curatorial roles. She is now the curator of Mayflower 400: Legend and Legacy at The Box, Plymouth, and co-curator of Wampum: Stories from the Shells of Native America, currently on national tour. She has also been appointed Visiting Fellow at the University of Plymouth (joloosemore.co.uk)
Maya Wassell Smith
Maya Wassell Smith is an AHRC funded PhD researcher working between Cardiff University and the National Maritime Museum, UK. Wassell Smith’s doctoral project ‘Sailor Art: Maritime making in the long nineteenth century’, aims to situate craft objects produced by sailors at the heart of current scholarly debates about gendered work and creativity, military masculinity, and citizenship (https://bit.ly/38uncBe)
Prof. Dave Parham
Dave Parham is an experienced maritime archaeologist and diver. His research interests focus on the archaeology of seafaring and ship construction of all periods but can extend into underwater cultural heritage management on occasions (staffprofiles.bournemouth.ac.uk/display/dparham)
