UPDATE: Thank you to our fantastically generous donors, we have reached our fundraising goal for 2024 and have closed the fundraiser. Thank you again to everybody who has supported us.
Last year, we asked for the very first time for support for GlobalMaritimeHistory. Many people were very generous with their donations to this website.
When the website was founded (in 2012) as British Naval HIstory, Justin Reay was paying for the costs as it was his creation. In 2017, when I took over the project and it became GlobalMaritimeHistory, David Davies very kindly paid the costs to the UK hosting service for the first year, and I took over the costs subsequently. I use Dreamhost for hosting, and GoDaddy for the Domain Name and Domain Privacy.
Last Year’s Costs (All in CAD):
Hosting: $219.29
PHP Support: $13.57
DNS: $51.10
Storage $31.63 (Google Drive- for podcasts, archival photos shared here, etc)
Total: $309.59
Remaining: $67.06.
I have already used approximately $32 of last year’s remainder for this 2024’s Google Storage.
Funds will be used to pay for website hosting costs, and if there is any excess it will be held over for 2025 costs. If there is in some way sufficient excess, it will be used to pay for better/faster/more reliable hosting on Dreamhost.
This year we are in the final processes of the first stage of the ADM 8 project, and we are also working on transcribing Admiralty Manual Catalogues (BR1) which we will be making openly available to researchers as well.
Any donations are very much appreciated to keep these projects going into the future.
