Join on Saturday, January 27 at 11 AM EST for the NMHS Zoom Seminar Series featuring Peter McCracken, author of the “Maritime History on the Internet” column in Sea History.
The age of the internet puts so much information at our disposal, but if you don’t quite know where to look or which tools to use, it can still be hard to find the answers you need. Ships like Titanic, Constitution, United States, and Monitor are well-covered in online articles, blogs, books and other sources, but where can you go to find the answers to questions about the thousands of other vessels—cargo ships, warships, science vessels, passenger ships, ferries and more? It can be a daunting task. In this seminar, Peter will guide you through the effective navigation of his site, ShipIndex.org, and discuss other digital resources and techniques for exploring maritime history. He will demonstrate how you can access resources from large libraries, even if you are miles away or unaffiliated. This seminar is perfect for anyone looking to harness the full potential of the internet for maritime research, from historians and researchers to enthusiasts and students.
