This volume (call number ADM/L/C/303) is one of several Lieutenant’s Logs for those who served aboard HMS Centurion Prize, a Manila Galleon named the Nuestra Señora de Covadonga which was captured by the Centurion during Anson’s expedition to the Pacific Ocean. This is a fascinating volume that provides an example of the types of journals that Lieutenants were expected to keep as proof of their competency and their professionalism. Included is a certificate from the Admiralty Office in 1744 that they have received this “journal”.
The log contains proceedings between 21st June and 15th December 1743. There is a fascinating description of Summers’ service aboard the Centurion Prize came to an end, when the ship was given to Portugese sailor in Macao. We are fortunate that several other volumes exist (L/C/302 through 306).
On the google drive, the folder has 14 images from this volume.
