This volume is part of the DOU Admiral Sir James Douglas collection at the Caird, but it could very easily belong in the ADM/L Lieutenant’s Logs series as well, for that is essentially what this is. This covers Douglas’ time on the Ipswich from September 1734 to January 1735/6. The photos that I’ve taken mostly focus on the weeks either side of the end of May from the years in the journal, as I was looking for evidence of the Royal Navy continuing to celebrate the Restoration and other relics of Charles II and James II into the Hanoverian period.
Here are example photos from the beginning of the volume. I have 99 images from this volume. During this period the Ipswich spent time in the Caribbean, specifically in Port Royal. The daily commentary is very limited really, only a few sentences per day max, but you can get a sense of the kinds of things that were deemed important enough or memorable enough to get into the journal.
