The Canadian Nautical Research Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Kikkert as the new editor of The Northern Mariner/Le marin du nord.
Peter holds the Irving Shipbuilding Chair in Arctic Policy and Assistant Professor in Public Policy and Governance, Brian Mulroney Institute of Government, St. Francis Xavier University.
Educated at the University of Waterloo (BA and MA) and Western University (PhD), Peter held a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council postdoctoral fellowship at Trent University. He has taught at the University of Waterloo, Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, and Aurora College at Fort Smith/Inuvik, Northwest Territories.
His numerous publications, in war and society as well as Arctic history and current issues, include important contributions to The Northern Mariner/Le marin du nord, most recently “On Hallowed Ground”: St. Roch, Sovereignty, and the 1944 Northwest Passage Transit,” vol XXIX (October 2019): 213-232.
Dr. William Glover, our current editor, has kindly agreed to continue to serve in the coming months while Peter prepares for the transition of the journal to publication in open access software. The society owes an enormous debt to Bill, who has served two terms as editor, 2000-2006 and since 2015.
