GlobalMaritimeHistory is looking for somebody to take over the Announcements Editor duties.
For the past several years, Dr Sarah Pickman has done a fantastic job in this role, collecting CFPs, event notices, posters and other announcements and uploading them to the website to promote them. As her career and life evolves, however, it is time for somebody else to take up these duties.
This is a volunteer, not a paid position.
DUTIES
- The Announcements Editor is one of the public faces for this website, and they will have a provided email so they can collect announcements from conference and event organizers
- It is expected that they will be on some sort of social media (Bluesky by preference, as well as others)
- It is expected that they will be on one or more H-net mailing lists.
- It is expected that they will post at least one event per week.
- The volunteer will be provided with a log-in to the website, a GlobalMaritimeHistory Email account, and access to the GMH Bluesky and Facebook accounts.
- The volunteer will be trained on how to take content in other forms and make it suitable for WordPress.
- The volunteer should be involved with the maritime history/archaeology academic community in some way- even if it is not their primary focus, subject or research topic.
- The volunteer will have the opportunity to publish blog posts, longer pieces, and generally be part of the GlobalMaritimeHistory as much or as little as they would like outside this role.
- The total time for this role should be as little as 30 minutes to one hour a week.
It is not intended that this should be a competition. If more than one person is interested, than we will find ways for more than one person to be involved to the extent they would like to be.
