The British Commission for Maritime History awards an annual prize of £200, sponsored by the publishers Boydell & Brewer, for the best maritime history doctoral thesis. The Commission views maritime history as a wide-ranging discipline and in the past nominations have come from departments of geography, economics, languages, archaeology, classics, business, technology, as well as history.
Those who have been awarded doctorates in the past academic year, 2023-2024, are eligible. The deadline for nominations is December 1, 2024. These may be made by the doctoral candidate or supervisor. Details and the nomination form are available on the British Commission for Maritime History website.
