Brenna received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Montana in 2011. She came to the University of Southampton in 2012, where she received her Master’s of Arts in Medieval and Renaissance Culture and where she stayed on for a PhD. Her project is entitled ‘English Seafarer Communities in the Later Middle Ages: A Study in the Socio-Cultural Economics and Geographic Mobility of an Occupational Group’. The research project focuses on fourteenth century shipboard communities in England, with an emphasis on their socio-cultural economic status. In addition to her PhD project, she is also co-leader for the multidisciplinary postgraduate group called the Southampton Marine and Maritime Postgraduate Group (SMMPG), which is affiliated with the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI). This group’s aim is to bring together maritime researchers from all Faculties, hoping to further understand the intricacies of the sea by sharing ideas and perspectives.
