I just wanted to do a little debrief on this since I presented on this project his past Saturday at the CNRS/NASOH conference in St Catharines.
It’s hard to summarize a 20 minute presentation in a blogpost, but I am glad to say that the presentation was recorded and that will be shared here as soon as that is released.
Unfortunately, I was only able to attend the last session of the conference, in fact I was the last paper presented. There were a number of very good questions about the purpose and the future of this project.
What’s next is that I’m planning to transcribe the 1951 BR1 Catalogue- which, it seems, from speaking to somebody with experience, might actually have been the first BR1 catalogue. That is certainly a detail that needs to be chased down.
Secondly, I spoke to a few NASOH members who have been looking at the US equivalents, and I would love to do some collaborative work with them. Also, it seems that my summary of the existing state of the topic (that nobody has actually looked at Admiralty Manuals as a topic of their own) is actually true. Alas.
Next thing though, I need to make a major push on the ADM8 project to get that done so I think this is probably the resting point of the Admiralty Manuals project for the next several months. I will of course share things as I start to make progress again.
