On the 10th of February, I presented a talk to the Maritime History Seminar Series run by King’s College London, the British Commission for Maritime History and Lloyd’s. Here is the that presentation, as recorded by KCL.
In this paper, I talk about the ADM 8 Database project, then go on to describe some preliminary advanced research that I have been doing with the database, particularly looking at the relationships between officers who worked together on the same ships, and on the same stations. Although originally the purpose was to speculate on the size of social-professional networks for each officer, as I worked with the data I realized that the graphs created were much more useful for looking at how the complexity of relationships between the Royal Navy’s various stations and deployments changed over time- in particular year to year.
The graphs that were used to illustrate this presentation can be found here.
