University of Oxford’s Transnational & Global History Seminar invites papers for its annual conference. This year’s conference, which will take place in-person and online, will be on the theme of “Colonialism, Conflict & Commemoration.” The deadline to submit an abstract is April 15.
Abstracts can address, but are not limited to the following subthemes:
-
Settler colonialism: Exploring the enduring impacts and contemporary manifestations of settler colonial projects.
-
Asymmetric Conflicts: Reckoning with occluded histories of irregular warfare, civil wars, counter-insurgencies, wars of national liberation, and their effects (including but not limited to forced migration, ethnic cleansing, and mass captivity).
-
Memory and transnational justice: Investigating how memories of colonialism and conflicts are preserved, contested, and reconciled on transnational scales.
-
Truth and reconciliation: Analyzing mechanisms of truth-telling, justice, and reconciliation in post-colonial and post-conflict contexts.
-
Networks and methods: Discussing innovative methodologies and theoretical frameworks for studying colonial legacies, conflict dynamics, and commemorative practices.

Lived embodiment of research: As a seminar, we are interested in learning about the lived embodiment of research. We are also interested in submissions exploring commemoration in praxis, including an exploration of these themes through performance arts.
