Announcement: Global Maritime History Launches Book Review Section
As part of the ongoing development of the Global Maritime History project, the Book Reviews section will be launched in July 2018. Dr Erin Spinney has been appointed the Book Reviews Editor.
In order for a book to be reviewed:
- It should be published in the past year
- It should be about maritime history- broadly considered
- These books can include academic, trade publications or self-published books
- The person requesting to review the book should not have already reviewed it for another publication
Reviewing books is an excellent way for graduate students, ECRs’ and non-academics to be published and contribute to academic conversations. We encourage those currently underrepresented in academia and the maritime community (women, people of colour, etc.) to submit book reviews! If there is a recently published book that you would like to review, if you would like to review one of the books that we already have on hand, or if there is a book coming out in the future that you would like to review, please contact the book review editor.
The list of books we currently have available for review is here. This list will be updated as we receive new books from publishers.
Guidance on writing your book review:
Book reviews should be between 500-700 words and address the key themes of the book under review. Connections to historiography are encouraged. Please write in an accessible academic style using either American or British spelling. Once you have completed your review please send it as a word document to the book review editor. Your review may be edited for style and clarity. You will be notified once your review has been posted on the blog.
